Quality

Quality system

Inspection is not a function separate from production: it is built into the process and carried out by the people who do the work.

Our approach

Quality control is part of the process

A non-conformity found at the end of the production cycle is a cost; the same anomaly caught straight after soldering is useful information for improving the process. That is why checks are not concentrated at the end, but spread along the whole production cycle.

Line operators check the result of each operation they perform, the quality control department visually inspects the finished boards and the testing area verifies that they work. When an anomaly occurs, production is stopped and the causes are analysed before work continues.

Being a compact organisation is an advantage here: communication between departments is immediate and issues are dealt with quickly.

Where we check, along the cycle
  1. Goods-inMaterials checkQuantities and match of PCBs and components
  2. SMT lineOperator checkEvery operation checked in line
  3. PTH assemblyOperator checkInsertion according to the bill of materials
  4. Machine solderingControlled settingsRepeatable across the whole batch
  5. Manual processesOperator checkTo the customer's drawings and lists
  6. Quality controlVisual inspectionEvery board, IPC-A-610 criteria
  7. TestingFunctional testProcedure agreed with the customer
  8. PackagingAnti-static packingTo the customer's specification
Every order is recorded: materials used and operations performedAnomaly: production stops and the causes are analysed before continuing
Quality checks

The checks we carry out

  1. On arrival

    Incoming materials

Checking quantities and the match of printed circuit boards and components.

    Warehouse
  2. After assembly

    Visual inspection

Carried out on every board produced, by staff trained on the specific product.

    Quality control
  3. Before packing

    Functional testing

Verification of operation according to the procedure agreed with the customer.

    Testing
  4. For every order

    Order records

Records of the materials used and the operations performed for each order.

Regulatory compliance

Reference standards

The standards we declare for our production processes and the materials we use.

We work to structured internal procedures and in compliance with current regulations. We are starting a process to formalise and certify our production, safety and quality processes; its actual status is shown below. We believe it is right to state it clearly, in case a customer's specification makes these requirements a binding condition.

RoHS

RoHS Directive

European legislation restricting the use of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment. Our production processes, solder alloys and components comply with its requirements; material declarations are kept on file and available on request.

Applied
  1. Done: Requirements applied
  2. Done: Declarations on file
  3. Done: Available on request
IPC-A-610

Acceptability criteria

The standard is already the reference adopted for the visual inspection of solder joints and assemblies. Formal certification of the inspection staff is planned.

Adopted as reference
  1. Done: Inspection reference
  2. Done: Applied to joints and assemblies
  3. Planned: Staff certification
REACH

Chemical substances

The consumables we use meet the applicable requirements. We are systematically collecting our suppliers' declarations of conformity to support the documentation.

In progress
  1. Done: Requirements met
  2. In progress: Supplier declarations
  3. Planned: Complete archive

Quality management system

Certification not yet obtained. The alignment process is under way, with the gradual formalisation of the procedures already applied in production.

Safety and environment

Assessment of the ISO 45001 (occupational health and safety) and ISO 14001 (environmental management) paths, to follow the certification of the quality system.

Under assessment
  1. In progress: Assessment
  2. Planned: Start
  3. Planned: Certification

Technology upgrades and training

Every year part of our resources goes into improving the production department: renewing equipment, expanding the testing equipment and training staff on the industry's reference technologies.

Among the developments under consideration is the introduction of automated optical inspection systems, to work alongside — not replace — the visual inspection carried out by our operators.
